Hey Team,
This’ll be the last official weekly email until we return from the break. Keep kicking it over the break and we’ll see you in January. Anyways, we’ve got some big announcements below with things you need to know to be in the know.
1. Anonymous Response Form
See anywhere we could be improved? Have ideas for team training? We need your feedback! Fill out this form to let us know how we can better serve you. It’s completely anonymous so don’t feel shy about being completely honest. The form can be found here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dHpBNEt0VHZVYVR3b3dwRUdoT3lGNXc6MQ
2. Tip of the Week (or Month in this case…)
Keep motivated! I know it’s difficult to continue kicking, running, and lifting when at home. The temptation to sleep, drink, and be merry is one we all face during these winter months. But right now is one of your best opportunities to push beyond the limits you set on yourself over the semester. Think of all the other tkd teams who are getting slower and lazier while we just keep getting better. And if you ever need some outside motivation, remember we’re all here to cheer each other on!
3. Texas LoneStar Dual @ A&M
A big round of applause for all our fighters this past weekend. In a fledgling tradition, we will be having biannual tournaments with Baylor and A&M- dubbed Texas LoneStar Duals. This past weekend we travelled to College Station and fought to procure the title of tournament champions. UT came in first with 84 points. A&M secured second place with 78 points and Baylor came in third with 42 points. Our individual fighters who garnered us a win include: Jonalyn Herce, Melissa Benavides, Sadie Witkowski, Luiz Garcia, Jeremie Vega, Kyu Hur, Court Flato, Raymund Lee, and Martin Huang.
4. Winter Break Goals
Team Captain Raymund Lee will be sending out a workout guide and goals to be met over the break. Remember, it will be required to run a seven minute mile by the time you get back from break so don’t fall into laziness!
5. Socials- Secret Santa
Secret Santa and the ensuing potluck were a huge success again this year. Thank you everyone who participated to continue our winter tradition. A special thanks to everyone who cooked just for the event. Hope the rest of your holiday is just as merry!
6. Kicks 4 Kids
We have now come down to our final class with the kids of UT Elementary. November 28th, we’ll be hosting their final class which will also serve as a demonstration for their parents. We’d like to thank everyone who donated their time to see this exciting project to completion.
7. Officer Update
Our officers are a hard working lot who are trying to grow the Taekwondo program to new heights. Currently, they are doing a teaching program for UT elementary students once a week on mondays as well as organizing “fight-offs” with local gyms. They are also making a push for more fundraising events. Offers of assistance are always welcome and encouraged, particularly if you have a contact with another school interested in some friendly sparring matches. We will be sending out officer applications before the end of the semester for those interested in serving in an officer position next semester.
8. Membership Forms + Dues
Membership forms can be obtained from any of the officers and must be completely filled out and returned. Along with the filled out form you need your insurance information and dues. If you chose to write a check, they should be made out to “Texas Taekwondo.” Once your form and dues have been turned in, we will add you to the Texas Taekwondo Facebook group where our lessons and conversations are documented with photos and videos. If you haven’t turned in your paperwork by the third class day, we can’t allow you to kick with us for liability reasons.
9. Try Outs
Stay tuned for tryouts next semester and please contact Coach Joe Van or Team Captain Raymund Lee for any questions.
10. Practice
We have discontinued having kicking practice every Tuesday and Thursday from 7-9pm in RSC 1.138 until the end of the break. However, we’ll be back January 17th and we encourage you to spread the word to all your friends and bring them along. We can always use more training partners and it’s a great way to share an activity we all love.
11. Facebook
If you haven’t already, don’t forget to “like” us on Facebook and share our page will all your friends! The link can be found here:
